FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Tuesday, the New York State Senate and Assembly released their FY 2026 budget proposals. New York Solar Energy Industries Association (NYSEIA) applauds the Senate and Assembly for both including a proposal to modernize New York’s residential solar tax credit. NYSEIA thanks the prime bill sponsors Senator Harckham and Assemblywoman Walker for championing this legislation as well as the many co-sponsors along with Senate and Assembly leadership who had the vision and commitment to advance this impactful policy. The residential solar tax credit modernization will: raise the per household tax credit cap to account for inflation and the cost of energy storage; make the credit refundable for low-income families and seniors; and ensure that homeowners in co-ops and condos can equally benefit. The cost of this investment is dwarfed by the utility bill savings, economic activity, and jobs that it will deliver for hardworking New Yorkers. NYSEIA looks forward to continued partnership with our nonprofit coalition partners, the Legislature and the Governor’s Office to ensure that this impactful proposal is included in New York’s final FY26 budget.
