On January 23rd, 2025, NYSEIA submitted comments on the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) Proposed Rules regarding the installation of Energy Storage Systems (ESS). NYSEIA strongly supports the streamlining of ESS installations in New York City, but expresses concerns that these rules may pose unnecessary barriers based on national standards, including:

• Energy Storage Management System requirements for residential installations

• Real-time monitoring and alerting requirements

NYSEIA continues to look forward to working collaboratively with the DOB, the FDNY, and other stakeholders to find viable solutions that ensure public safety while eliminating administrative barriers to the adoption of efficient energy storage systems.
