On April 2, 2024, NYSEIA submitted a memo to the FDNY and NYC Mayor's Office summarizing industry feedback on FDNY's draft "expedited requirements" for small residential energy storage systems. This brief memo summarizes the elements of the FDNY’s proposed requirements that are infeasible and outlines viable alternatives that will enable the installation of residential BESS in New York City, while also providing a high degree of safety to New York City’s first responders and residents.
